After a warmup, it’s time to get your heart racing. Cardiovascular exercises will help you build muscles and burn calories. These intense fast-pace exercises might feel like too much at first, but you’ll feel great and refreshed after completing them.
How can you get your heart rate up without any gym equipment? It’s easy. Jump rope. Run in place. Kickbox. Follow an aerobics video. Practice jumping jacks and burpees. Mountain climbers and squat jumps are other great options. Do these exercises at least 30 minutes a day, 3 times a week. Strength training uses resistance (usually from weights) to help build lean muscles and reduce fat. Luckily, you already have the best weight in your home – it’s your body! Your own body weight is all you need for strength training. Squats, push-ups, lunges, planks and abdominal crunches are all simple, but effective, exercises to incorporate into your workout routine.
Use your body and test its strength. Keep pushing, and you’ll just keep getting stronger. Make sure to complete strength training exercises for 20 to 30 minutes at least 3 times a week. Shoot for 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions of the exercises you choose!
Once you’re finished with your workout, it’s important to take time to bring you heart back to its resting rate. More importantly, don’t forget to schedule yourself a rest day. Exercising every day hurts you more than it helps you.
On your rest day, take time to practice yoga and increase your flexibility. This will help you be more successful in your future workouts and will give your body the reset it needs to start fresh! This might just be the more important part of your routine. Don’t neglect it!
